πŸ“Œ Toronto could be one of Canada's loneliest cities.

πŸ“Œ According to CTV News and the Toronto Foundation, Toronto could be one of Canada's loneliest cities.

The Toronto Foundation’s 2023 Vital Signs report, titled β€˜The Power of Us,’ found that 37 per cent of Toronto respondents to a wide-ranging survey reported feeling lonely at least three days a week.

The number of Torontonians who reported feeling lonely at least three days a week was higher than in any other city included in the survey.

Here are some ideas if you are feeling lonely at work and need a boost:

Initiate Conversations πŸ’¬:
πŸ“ Take the initiative to start conversations with your colleagues. Ask about their weekends, interests, or opinions on work-related matters. 🌟
πŸ“ Attend workplace events, such as team-building activities, happy hours, or lunch gatherings.
πŸ“ These can provide opportunities for informal interactions. πŸŽ‰

Join Workplace Groups (including Employee Resources Groups) or Clubs 🀝:
πŸ“ Many workplaces have clubs or groups centered around common cause, interests or hobbies. Joining one of these groups can help you connect with colleagues who share similar passions. πŸ“

Seek Mentorship or Buddy Programs 🀝:
πŸ“ Inquire if your workplace has a mentorship program or a buddy system for new employees. Having someone to guide you or share experiences with can foster a sense of belonging. 🌈

Participate in Team Projects 🀝:
πŸ“ Collaborate on team projects or volunteer for cross-functional teams. Working closely with colleagues on shared goals can strengthen your professional relationships. 🀝

Open Up about Your Feelings πŸ—£οΈ:
πŸ“ Consider discussing your feelings of loneliness with a trusted colleague or supervisor. They may offer support or suggest ways to integrate more socially into the workplace. πŸ€—

Attend Networking Events 🌐:
πŸ“ Attend industry conferences, workshops, or networking events. These gatherings provide opportunities to meet new people, both within and outside your organization. 🌍

Utilize Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) 🀝:
πŸ“ Many companies offer Employee Assistance Programs that include counseling services. If loneliness is affecting your well-being, don't hesitate to seek professional support. 🌱

Create a Positive Workspace 🌈:
πŸ“ Personalize your workspace with items that bring you joy or make you feel comfortable. A positive and inviting workspace can contribute to a better overall mood. πŸͺž

Consider Lunch or Coffee Invitations β˜•:
πŸ“ Accept invitations for lunch or coffee breaks. These informal settings can provide a more relaxed environment for getting to know your colleagues. πŸ”

Promote Social Activities πŸŽ‰:
πŸ“ Propose or organize social activities within your workplace, such as team-building exercises, outings, or themed events. 🏞️
